Victory is Mine!

Huh. A week ago I was sitting in a tent in Staten Island. Now I’m sitting in a hotel room in Niagara Falls. I made it. Tomorrow will return to some reality, with the thoughts of the past week echoing in my mind.

I will give some of the details and numbers and my favorite two pictures tomorrow. For tonight, rest assured that I have approximately 560 miles under my belt. Today was running on pure determination. And I asked for inspiration from you all and what I got truly did help. The comments came in while I was riding and each one pushed me a few miles more.

I promised to thank people properly tonight. To all of the people that donated, thank you. Tonight we were told that the total donations received for this ride broke $1.6 MILLION dollars. Historic for this ride. And we were also told that the donations are already being used to fund trials and research for treatments for multiple types of cancer..so the money everyone donated has already been put to work.

Also, to Jen and Keri (alphabetical order!) thank you for sharing your stories. You brought a level of humanity that makes this so much more relatable than Greg going for a ride to raise money.

To my coworkers…Roger, Daniel, Ed, Michael, Heather, and the others that I’m sure I’m forgetting…thank you for following my journey, even before this week.

I understand what one of my favorite Peloton instructors means when she talks about feeling hands on your back. Today I needed a push, and each of you had a virtual hand on my back giving me a boost.

As I said, tomorrow will be a more final post.

This is Harvey,. He was Easton (the medic’s) puppy. Adorable! He’s no Mia, but he was cute!
Rest stop 2 had, what I learned, is an ESR Day 7 tradition. Donut stop!
Rest stop 2 also was a chance to visit my bike tech buddies. I has a small leak that was progressively getting worse. I didn’t want to risk it, so I had him change my inner tube. Found a shard of glass embedded in the tire.
Not the best picture (those are for tomorrow) but I made it! And yes, my lucky socks were present!
