Day 6 – The “Real” World Nears

I realize I’ve been very introspective. I won’t go too much there tonight. Just a few thoughts and pictures. Today was a decent ride but we had near-20MPH headwinds a lot of the ride which was brutal.

But tonight is my last sleep in a tent. I’m going through my bags sorting things through, realizing that I won’t unpack them again until I’m home. I’m just putting together an overnight bag for the hotel tomorrow.

I realized, as I was riding today, what I’ve not had for a week. WiFi. Television. Air conditioning. Laundry. My favorite coffee. Plumbing. A car. Quite literally almost every modern convenience. And I realized it’s been good. Very good. The week has flown by and I haven’t really missed those things (much).

I came here with a credit card and some petty cash. And I still have every dollar I started with, and my card has not once been swiped.

I do want to thank, first and foremost, Laura for keeping everyone updated every morning. It was a big ask, but I was surprised to learn that people were waiting on that post.

More people to thank tomorrow.

Today’s video is here. I will try to get my tracker up tomorrow before I roll out.

Tomorrow night I will post a wrap up, for now. You all may not be done hearing from me. In two weeks we start talking about the 2022 edition of the ride.

Early this morning. Yes, that’s a storm, and yes, that’s a cornfield.
Definitely not in New Jersey any more!
No idea what town this was, but it was a stunning photo op
Much of today was riding alongside the Erie Canal. This was right past one of the locks (which are still in operation!)

    1. Very good question. But I would not recommend this as a weight loss activity.

I didn’t mean it as that….more because you are most likely burning more calories than you are taking in.

        1. Depends. On my rides I’m burning though around 3k calories. And you keep burning after you’re done. But they are aware of that and there is plenty of fuel available for us. Everywhere. If you aren’t paying attention I bet you could gain a few.
