First Night in the Books

Day one is done. It’s been an eventful day. Today started as I expected. A lot of confusion followed by a sense of figuring things out. Once in New York City it poured on us. But we rode on.

I spent some of the day riding with others. I spent some alone. And I reflected. A lot. Some introspection on my own life which I won’t inflict on you. But I did truly think about why I am doing this ride. And it’s for everyone who donated. You all gave of yourselves. The very least I can do is go mile after mile to say thank you.

The power of this ride is unreal. We had people taking our pictures all along the way. We had police stopping traffic. And we had complete strangers stopping us as we rode to say thank you to us. So this is my way of thanking YOU.

Here is today’s activity.

And random tidbit…today I pedaled 11,929 strokes.

The ride started with a bird gifting me something. This was probably less than two miles into the ride, and while I was moving. Pretty impressive. I was always told it’s good luck. A sign? Perhaps.

The rain briefly broke. I looked up and was very touched by what I saw. To be riding past this really brought a lot of memories. The group of people I was with at the time spent a few minutes sharing their stories.

And now I sit in my tent. We were all just evacuated to shelter in tents because there is a lightning storm approaching. And I’m reminded again of not only how much support we have, as there is someone on site watching the weather in real-time, following guidelines. But that, at the end of the day, nature still rules us all.

Until tomorrow.

I do want to thank Laura Green for helping keep you up to speed with my journey.

And I also want to thank my friend and donor Jennifer, who is virtually riding along with me in support.
